Birthday Give Away

Es ist schon so lange her, dass ich ein Give Away gemacht habe und nachdem mich Rhonda letztens so lieb gefragt hat und heute ein "besonderer" Tag ist, hab ich mir überlegt endlich wieder ein paar Kleinigkeiten zu verschenken. Als ich letztens am Stamp it up Swap mitgemacht habe, ist ein Notebook entstanden, welches leider die falsche Farbe hatte. Ich liebe Notebooks! Nachdem ich blau liebe, könnte ich es ja selbst verwenden, aber da ich ein tolles von meiner Freundin bekommen habe, möchte ich dieses auf Reise schicken.
It is kind of a long time ago since I made a Give away. So it is time to do it again! When Rhonda asked so nicely lat time I thought today is perfect day to give something away. To be honest, I love notebooks. Covered in bright fabrics they make studying much easier and even the To-Do-List does not look so bad in them. As I used the wrong color last time for my swap partner and I got a lovely one from a good friend this is now ready to get on a journey to someone who might love it.

The Mug Rug is hopefully already in Berlin!

Aber ein Notebook ist nicht genug und da ich so einige halbfertige Blöcke hier herumliegen habe, ist noch ein kleiner Mug Rug entstanden. Der Block wurde nach der Vorlage für den Modern Stitching Bee September angefertig.
But a notebook itself is not really enough for a give away. I have plenty of finished blocks here. Most of the time I make more than the asked blocks for the bees so there was this little block waiting to be transformed into something. This fussy cut little one was perfect for a mug rug and with a little pink and red I love it. Would you like this?

Natürlich sind alle guten Dinge drei. Könnte doch auch gar nicht anders sein. Also jemand Lust auf ein UFO? Ich liebe es UFOs zu verschicken! Leider habe ich aber gerade keines, welches ich entbehren kann. Nun ist guter Rat teuer. Wie wäre es mit einer Überraschung?

To be honest, two little things are not enough. There have to be three! So what about an UFO? I love sending UFOs. I am not sure if I can find a nice one but what about a surprise? I am sure I can find a little something!

An other pillow ...

Es ist noch gar nicht so lange  her, da hat mein Sohn Joshi zum Geburtstag bekommen. Der Mario QAL war genau die Idee, die ich noch gesucht habe, um ihm auch einmal etwas zu nähen. Allerdings war ich nicht mutig genug, alle Blöcke zu nähen sodass ich nur einen riesigen in einen Polster verwandelt habe.

 Not long ago my son got Joshi to his birthday. When I read about the Mario QAL I knew that this might be something for him. I was just not brave enough to do all the blocks so I used only one to make him a huge pillow.

Der Polster ist riesig. Er wurde mit 2 Kissen gefüllt und seither liegt er im Bett. Mein Sohn bewacht ihn ganz streng und er wird nicht geteilt. Das ärgert die kleine Schwester ganz furchtbar und so hat sie sich auch so ein riesen Kissen zum Geburtstag gewünscht .. ähmmmm ja ... mit ein bisschen Verspätung hab ich es geschafft. Irgendwie hatte ich nicht die richtige Idee, aber als ich den Quilt bei Sarah gesehen habe war ich mir sicher, dass Judith design genau das richtige ist. Also ran an die Charms und her mit dem Cutter ...
This pillow is huge! It is filled with 2 pillows and since the first day it is in his bed (sometimes I wounder how he finds space to sleep). It only took some minutes until the sister asked about one for herself. She is a girl so she was asking for princess peach but to be honest: this were much to many squares and I told her she might have one for her birthday. She never forgot about it and ... hmmm ... only two month late she got it now! I loved Sarahs quilt she made in Judith class. Thas was just perfect. So I took out the charms and the cutter ...

Ausgesucht habe ich rot/pink und low volume. Zum Glück habe ich an Swaps teilgenommen und so konnte ich die low volume aus dem Textfabric-Swap und die pinken aus dem Rainbow-Swap verwenden. 2.5'' sind schnell aus den Charms geschnitten und dann wurde aufgelegt...
I used red and pink and low volume. All the charms are from the text fabric swap and the rainbow swap not long ago (so if anyone knows a low volume swap I would love to take part). I cut them in 2.5'' square so every charm gave me 4 squares and I started the layout.

Das war noch die einfache Aufgabe, aber die einzenlen Quadrate richtig zusammenzunähen ist eine eher langweilige und langwierige Geschichte. Ich habe mir den Rat zu Herzen genommen und viele Bilder gemacht um am Ende auch wieder das gleiche Muster zu erhalten, aber was soll ich sagen ... es kam natürlich anders. So habe ich versucht Reihe für Reihe langsam zusammenzusetzten ...
This was kind of the easy part. The hard and boring part is to put the squares together in right order. I tried to follow an advice and take lots of pictures but to be honest: it did not help with me. I somehow mixed the squares up and after some rows I got back to rearrange some squares. But row after row the pillow was growing... 

ABER dann kam das  ...
UNTIL  the sewing machine went on strike ...

Es ging einfach gar nichts mehr! Trotz mehrfachem neu einfädenln, putzen, ein-und ausschalten, Pause machen, .... Die Maschine wollte einfach nicht mehr wie ich. Welch perfektes Timing! Fertige Reihen am Tisch und Unmengen von squares am Boden! Aber irgendwann ging es dann doch weiterund eine Seite für den Polster war fertig.
Nothing was working. I redid all threads, used a new spool (need to get more), removed the plate and tried to clean, switched it on and of and I was so nice to give it a break. Perfect timing to go on strike! I got some rows on the table and lots of squares on the floor. If I had to pack it up I would never ever (even with the pictures) be able to put them together again. So after lots of nice words she went back to work so I could finish the front.

 

Die Quadrate haben sich ein wenig vertauscht beim Nähen und so ist dieses Herz entstanden. Der Rest war dann recht einfach: Diagonal quilten, Rückseite und Reissverschluss annähen und am Ende einfach noch mit einem Polster füllen. Ich habe es geschafft!

Even with the mixes squares I am happy that it worked out so lovely. So there was just a little bit of quilting, getting fabric for the back and sew in a zipper to be done! Fill it with the pillow we bought ages ago ... I did it!

Nur zwei Monate nach ihrem Geburtstag ist sie nun auch stolze Besitzerin eines Riesenkissens. Sie liebt es heiss! Ohne diesen Polster geht sie nicht mehr schlafen. Ich liebe die Details, die so mancher Stoff zum Vorschein gebracht hat. Alles was man ihr nur wünschen kann steht nun auf dem Kissen ...

Only 2 month late she has her huge birthday pillow. She loves it! She carries it to watch TV and she brings it to bed. I love the details I could find in the text fabrics: hearts and hugs and good wishes!

Schlussendlich habt nun jeder seinen Polster. Mal abwarten, was als nächster Wunsch auf der Liste stehen wird! ... und als kleiner Hinweis: am Sonntag gibt es eine Kleinigkeit zu gewinnen!

Pillowmania ...

Als letztens meine Kleinste von der Schule nach Hause  kam und mir erzählte, dass sie einen Polster in die Schule bringen darf, weil doch die Sessel so hart sind, hab ich das noch lächelnd zur Kenntnis genommen. Allerdings wurde die Forderung nach einem Polster immer wehementer und so hab ich mir die Zeit genommen, einen kleinen Überzug für die Madam zu nähen. Ist ja gar nicht so einfach, wenn man doch nicht mal weiss, wie gross die Sessel sind.
Not long ago my little girl came home from school telling me they are allowed to have a pillow because the seats are so hard. Sure! I would loved to have a pillow in school but if teacher says we have to make a pillow. It took days now until I had time to make it but as she was asking daily it had to be done.

Im Fundus fanden sich ein paar mädchenhafte Stoffe und rundherum wurde mit pink und purple aufgefüllt. Natürlich musste auch ein Stoff mit Buchstaben eingearbeitet werden. Daumen mal Pi sollten 12 inch ausreichend sein. 4x4 3'' Quadrate sind somit perfekt.
So I had a close look in my stash and took out some girly fabrics. I thought 12'' might be a good size so 4x4 squares should work out fine. I took the mermaid, matroschkas, hippos and elephants and filled the gaps with pink and purple. Of course I had to put some letters in as well. The pillow is for school. She might just not know what this strange thingy is called type writer.

Schön bunt ist es geworden. Gerade richtig für den kommenden Winter. Eisig kalt ist es schon die letzten Tage hier, aber noch scheint die Sonne. Damit sie ihn auch nicht verliert, hab ich ihr Bänder eingenäht. Sie hat ihn auch gleich heute am Sessel festgebunden.
I love it and she does as well. She cuddled and hugged it after school and already tried it yesterday while doing homework. The colors will hopefully brighten the days in school when it is getting darker. So today she took it to school and fixed it to the chair. 
 

Damit man ihn auch waschen kann, habe ich einen Reißverschluß eingenäht. Das war keine so gute Idee, denn prompt hat die Nähmaschine klack gemacht und ...
Just in case it might need a washing one day I thought about putting a zipper in. Bad idea! Look what happened ...

... Nadel ab! Irgendwie ging das mit der alten Maschine einfacher. Das ist schon die zweite Nadel, die ich ruiniert habe. Das heisst dann wohl mal wieder Nadeln kaufen gehen. Für gestern hat es gereicht und so wurde nach dem Wechsel der Zip eingenäht und tata ...
... needle broke! Oh yeah! This must be the advantage of having a new sewing machine cause the old one never ever cared about sewing over a zipper. Lucky me I have some needles left and could finish the pillow. So now she has a pillow with ribbons to fix it to the chair AND a zip!

Damit sitzt sie nun schön weich und hoffentlich macht das Lernen und noch mehr Spass!
Hope learning is now much more fun and she is sitting comfy!

I am late ...

Es ist schon eine Woche her, dass ich mein Pincushion vom Modern Irish Quilter Swap erhalten habe und auch mein Pincushion ist schon lange bei meiner Partnerin angekommen. Irgendwo ist der Wurm drin. Also von Anfang an! Natürlich konnte ich nicht nein sagen, als die Modern Irish Quilters zum swap aufgerufen haben. Ein Pincushion sollte es sein. Hmmmm, nähen tu ich die ja gern, aber ob ich noch eines brauche? Mal schnell überlegt ... eines für die Nadeln beim Schneiden, eins am Bügelbrett, eines neben der Nähmaschine, eins am Boden (mein neuer Platz zum Muster auflegen), ... Ja! Ich brauch noch mindestens fünf. Also Mosaik erstellt ...
It was already a week ago that my pincushion from the Modern Irish Quilter Swap arrived and also mine is already at its new home. I was just not in the mood to write about but this little cuty is so gorgeous I need to tell you about. So when the Modern Irish Quilters called for a swap how could I say no! But how many pincushions can anyone need? One at the cutting mat, one at the iron board, one at the sewing machine, one on the floor (my favorite place to spread out), etc ... So you never can have enough! This was my mosaic ...

Nadelkissen können ja so toll sein. Das Haus ist ja auch wirklich zu süss. Dieses mal hab ich auch die Anweisung meiner Partnerin gleich von Anfang an gut gelesen und so kam mir schnell die Idee mit dem Regenbogenkissen. Das wollte ich schon immer mal versuchen. Also Regenbogenstoffe zusammengesucht und mein Nadelkissen fertiggestllt.
Pincushions can be so cute! I  love each of them even if I would not pin all of them. This time I read the instructions from my partner carefully and when I saw rainbow colors I knew what I want to make. I love how the points came together and am really happy that it worked out so nice this time.

Mit etwas Verspätung ist es auch in Galway angekommen. Ja genau, es ist nicht weit gereist und eigentlich hätte ich es selbst zustellen können. Wie ich gehört habe, wurde es gleich in Beschlag genommen und als Polster für die Puppe verwendet!
Aber auch mein "Pincushion" ist angekommen und ich darf euch Patrick vorstellen:
It took felt ages until I got the message it arrived safely in his new home in Galway! Yes, it did not travel a long way but a long time. I was so happy when I heard it is already in use ... as a pillow for a doll! But I also want to introduce you to Patrick! This is the pincushion that arrived in my house (together with the pouch from the Stamp it Up swap). He is just adorable!!!

Ist diese kleine Eule nicht einfach ein Traum? Seit er bei mir angekommen ist, bewacht er meine Näharbeiten. In seiner Bauchtasche befand sich ein Auftrenner. Leider kam er schon zum Einsatz, aber inzwischen hat sich noch ein Stift und eine Garnrolle dazugesellt. Nur Nadel hat sich noch keine bei ihm eingefunden. Er ist auch viel zu schade für ein Nadelkissen. Es ist schön nun beim Nähen Gesellschaft zu haben. Vielen lieben Dank an Ruth! Ich finde ihn einfach nur cool!
I love this "little" owl. Since the first day he is my big helper now! He was watching over my heart pillow (I tell you about an other day) and he was sitting next to my sewing machine yesterday taking care of my coffee (I forgot about again and it was cold when I thought about again). In his pocket he brought me a new seam ripper! Unfortunately I already had to use it. Thank you so much Ruth! I so love my companion! He really makes me smile when I look at him!

My stamp it up pouch

 Gestern hab ich wieder die Frage gestellt bekommen, ob ich süchtig nach Swaps bin. Ich glaube ein wenig! Welch bessere Gelegenheit gibt es, sich kreativ auszutoben wenn nicht bei einem Swap. Manchmal ist es eine echte Herausforderung und manchmal dauert es nur Sekunden, bis man die zündende Idee hat.
Yesterday I got the same question again: are you addicted to swaps? Am I? Kind of! No, I do not join every swap but some are just to much fun to be missed and if blogger friends call it is great fun so I have to say yes! I love to make something for someone else. Sometimes it is a huge challenge but sometimes it just takes seconds to get an idea.

Ein Swap ging heute morgen für mich zu Ende, als ich endlich die erlösende Nachricht erhalten habe: RECEIVED! Gestern wurde mein Notebook zugestellt, aber manchmal dauert es wohl 9 Stunden bis flickr die Diskussionen aktualisiert und so konnte ich es erst heute morgen lesen. Ich bin so froh, dass es ihr gefällt. Eigentlich hatte ich ja das für sie geplant....
Today for me an other swap is finished. I found the message RECEIVED in the flickr group just 9 hours after she wrote it. My notebook has arrived its destination. Actually this was what I made for her in the first place but ...
 

... aber wer lesen kann ist klar im Vorteil: sie mag kein dunkles blau! Also nochmal von neuem geschnitten, gestempelt, gebügelt und genäht. Von der Idee eines Journals konnte ich mich nicht trennen. Auch das kleine Mädchen mit dem Buch (oder der Tafel) in der Hand lädt zum lernen, schreiben, malen etc ein. Ohne weitere Stickereien ging es dann auf die Reise.
... I should have read the message properly so I would have known she is not a fan of dark blue. So I went back to cutting, stamping, ironing and sewing. Somehow I loved the idea of making a notebook and the new stamp was just right. The little girl with the book in her hands should cover a book. I was not sure about the stitching so I left it and sent this off.

Das war mein Teil des Swaps und weil ich mit dem Kopf schon wieder bei zwei anderen Swaps bin und schon seit Tagen versuche meinen Quilt zu Ende zu nähen, hatte ich nicht weiter daran gedacht, dass auch bei mir ein Swapitem ankommen wird. So habe ich im Trubel gestern den Brief zwar aus dem Brieffach geholt, aber zur Seite gelegt und bis spät am Abend vergessen. Umso größer war aber die Freude beim Aufmachen. Cindy hat mir diese tolle Tasche genäht!
So that was my part of the stamp it up swap. As I am trying to finish a quilt for days I did not really have time to think about something else. So when the parcel from Cindy arrived at my door yesterday I did not even think about that this will be my swap item. As it was busy in the house I put it on the shelf and totally forgot about it until I came back late in the evening. I was so delighted when I opened it.

Ist die nicht toll? Vor allen Dingen hat sie tolle Farben verwendet. Perfekt für den grauen Alltag, der hier schon heute morgen eingezogen ist. Die kleinen Vögelchen sind so süß gemacht. Ich liebe es, wie sie um sich sehen und manche sind ein klein wenig cheeky.
Isn't it wonderful? I love the colors! Perfect for grey days which are already arriving now. I love the little birdies and all their different looks. Some are really cheeky!

Die Größe ist perfekt. Sogar mein kleines Buch hat darin Platz. Ich gestehe, es ist schon mit Stiften und Buch gefüllt und bereit, um mich heute zum Schwimmen zu begleiten. Immerhin habe ich dort knapp 45 Minuten Zeit während die Kids plantschen. Liebe Cindy, herzlichen Dank!
The size is perfect! Even my little book finds space in there. I already filled it with pens and the book ready to take it with me today to the swimming lessons. Thank you so much! I really love it.

Getting to a finish...

Die letzten Tage habe ich an dem Top vom Modern Irish Bee gearbeitet. Irgendwie wollte das Top nie so wie ich wollte und so habe ich dann auch mal die Naht wieder auftrennen dürfen. Heute ist es aber endlich fertig geworden! Juhuuuu!
The last days I have been working on the top for the Modern Irish Bee Quilt. Somehow it was much more challenging than I thought and the next time if anyone tells me it is not easy I will listen. Finally today the top was finished after haven a good time with Mr Seamripper. Yeahhh!

Es war mehr Herausforderung, als ich am Anfang dachte. Meine Bee-Damen haben alle Streifen mit 10 Dreiecken genäht. Aus zwei Streifen wurde eine Reihe und an die Enden jeder Reihe habe ich noch left overs vom Schneiden genäht. Nur noch Reihe für Reihe zusammenfügen und das Top war fertig. Auch die meisten Punkte sind super getroffen.
A huge thanks to the ladies in the bee. The ladies made stripes made out of 20 triangles. Two of those together made a row. On the ends I put left over from the cutting to get a straight line. Last step was to put the rows together. I am happy how it worked out at the end. The points look good and the colors are mixed well.

Hätte ich noch so tolle Hilfe von den Bee-Damen gehabt, wäre der Quilt wohl eine Idee in meinem Kopf geblieben. Ich bin noch immer begeistert von den Glimma Stoffen. Ausnahmsweise mal keinen bunten Quilt oder mit schreienden Farben. Dezent und doch ein paar Farbtupfer.
If there would not have been the huge help from the ladies I am sure this quilt would have staid an idea and never gotten an (almost finished) quilt. I still like the Glimma fabrics. This will be the only quilt not having bright colors or lots of color.

Nur noch die Rückseite stückeln und dann ab auf den Boden! Leider war der Stoff ein wenig zu schmal also musste noch zwei Streifen eingenäht werden. Nun ist alles fertig zum pinnen. Aber das mach ich morgen. Ich werde dann am Boden herumkrabbeln und singen ...

The only thing to be done today was to prepare the back. As the fabric is not wide enough I had to put two stripes in.. So tomorrow I go back on my knees pinning and singing ...

Modern Irish Quilter Swap

Swapping! Da bin ich immer gerne dabei. Wenn es dann noch ein irischer Swap ist, dann kann ich natürlich nicht nein sagen. Nadelkissen? Davon kann man doch nie genug haben. Eines am Schneideplatz, eines am Bügelbrett, eines neben der Nähmaschine, eines für Handnäharbeiten, eines am Sofa, ... die Verwendungsmöglichkeiten sind endlos! Da ich erst drei habe ist also noch genug Platz für ein weiteres. Nachdem ich gestern den Stamp it up Swap abgeschlossen habe, hatte ich heute genug Zeit an dem Nadelkissen für meine Partnerin zu arbeiten. Sie hat ganz konkrete Vorstellungen und so hoffe ich, dass ich ihre Wünsche erfüllen kann.
Swapping! Oh I love swapping. Some weeks ago there was a sign up for an Irish Quilter Swap. Could I say no? Of course not! Do I need an other pincushion? Let me think. I need one at the cutting place, on at the iron board, one at the sewing machine, one on the Table for hand sewing, one on the sofa, ... sure I need an other one! So as I finished my Stamp it up item yesterday there was time today for an other small project (leaving the huge ones in the corner waiting). I have a lovely partner and she gave lots of hints what she likes. So I started cutting ...

Ich wollte schon immer mal mit ganz kleinen Quadraten arbeiten. Bisher habe ich es vermieden, aber einmal muss man ja damit anfangen. Also drauflos geschnitten und 25 Quadrate alle genau 1.5inch gross vorbereitet. Dann konnte es losgehen mit dem Muster. Regenbogenfarben habe ich schnell gefunden, aber wie ging nochmal der Regenbogen? Von gelb nach Lila? Von Rot nach Blau? Wie gut, dass Mini ein Fan von den My little Ponies ist, also schnell noch eine Helferin geholt: Rainbow Dash!
I always wanted to make a project with tiny squares. I chose a pattern for 25 1.5 inch squares.
So this was the easy part but after I had cut all those lovely colors I stuck. How does a rainbow look like? Does it start with yellow and goes to purple? Or was it red and finishes with green? So I ran upstairs and got me a little helper from my little girl: Rainbow Dash!

Nach einiger Zeit Stoffe auflegen, arrangieren, umlegen, neu anfangen hatte ich irgendwann das Grundgerüst fertig.
After arranging and rearranging the squares I loved the look and kept it like that.

Ich gebe zu, ich hab nicht Quadrat für Quadrat zusammen genäht, sondern die einfach Methode angewandt. Ich wollte das schon immer mal versuchen und ich muss sagen, es hat bis auf einen kleinen Zwischenfall super geklappt. Nach Naht 5 hat leider die Nähmschine angefangen zu streiken.
I did not chain sew them all. To be honest I chose the easy way and ironed them on a fleece and only had to stitch along the lines .. but ... after seam 5 the sewing machine did not work any more and it looked like this!

Ahhhhh! Super! Ich habe in dem ganzen Aufräumwahn vor dem Sommer die Gebrauchsanleitung irgendwo "versteckt". Ach wie liebe ich das Internet, so konnte ich diese schnell online lesen und dann war das Problem schnell behoben und es konnte weitergehen. Sieht doch ganz nett aus.
Ahhhh! Finally I have an electronic sewing machine and now this! How do I fix this and where is this stupid manual? Where did I put it before the summer when I was cleaning the room? I have no clue but lucky me I could find it on the internet so I could fix this problem very fast and go on.

 Der Rest sollte dann doch recht einfach gehen. Die Rückseite wurde mit grauem Leinen versehen und dann musste nur noch die Wendeöffnung geschlossen werden. Ja nur noch ... Aber ...
Actually nothing can go wrong now! No? I prove it can! After cutting lovely linen for the back, sewing around and turn the inside out and stuffing the pincushion I only had to close this little whole .. JUST!!!! ...

.. dann brach noch die Nähnadel ab! Irgendwie brechen mir die dauernd ab und wenn sie nicht brechen, dann sind sie total verbogen. Entweder mach ich was falsch oder ich hab die falschen Nadeln. Zum Glück konnte die Spitze, die natürlich -wie könnte es auch anders sein - IM Kissen gebrochen ist, schnell gefunden werden und mit einer neuen Nadel wurden die paar Stiche noch geschafft und .. Tata!!! ... hier ist das Nadelkissen für meine Partnerin!
.. but than the needle broke! Oh no! I might do something wrong. Either the needle brakes or it is bend. For sure the pinpoint was IN the cushion. So removing the stuffing looking for the pinpoint and removing it. Finally I could do the last stitches and finish the pincushion for my partner.

Ich hoffe, es gefällt ihr und sie hat viel Freude damit. Ein paar Tage muss sie sich noch gedulden, bis es auf die Reise gehen wird.
I hope she loves and enjoys sewing much more with all the color around her. She has to be patient for some more days until I can sent it.
