The Help ...

Es passiert nicht oft, aber ab und zu gewinnt man doch mal in einem der unzaehligen Gewinnspiele die es so gibt. Vor einigen Tagen hatte ich Karten fuer The Help gewonnen. Juhuuu! Es war ein wundervoller Film. Teilweise hart zu verstehen und ein sehr trauriger Film. Nicht, weil es kein Happy End gibt - das gibt es auf seine Weise - weil er beruehrt.
It doesn't happen very often but sometimes I win in one of these countless raffles. Some days ago I won tickets for the cinema! Jippie! Sometimes it was hard to understand for me - I have to practice my English - and i found it really sad. Not because there was no happy end - in a special way there was - but it touched me.

Christmas ...

Eigentlich ist es ja noch viel zu frueh fuer Weihnachten, aber in den Geschaeften stapeln sich schon die Sterne und Lichter, Kugeln und auch Lebkuchen sind schon in den Regalen zu finden. Ich glaub, das ist das erste mal, dass ich an meinem Geburtstag Christstollen essen konnte - was ich nicht tat, denn den gibt es nur zu Weihnachten! "Listen to the Birds Sing" hat ein creative Christmas gestartet und da sind so herzige Ideen zu finden, dass ich das gleich mal weitersagen muss. Hier wuerde man sagen "so cute!",  "Absolutly gorgeous!"
Actually it is much to early to start Christmas in any way but in all the shops the stars and lights, Christmas balls and gingerbread can be found in the shelves. I think I could never eat Christmas cake on my birthday before - what I did not do because it is reserved for Christmas! Listen to the birds sing started a creative Christmas and she shows so lovely things that I have to share it. Absolutely gorgeous!

Natuerlich wird auch hier schon an Weihnachtsideen gewerkelt, aber mehr auf dem Papier und eigentlich ist es noch immer nur ein Brainstorming. Kein Wunder, hier sind noch die Kuerbisse und Feldermaeuse am Werk und eine grosse Hexe haengt an der Eingangstuere. Doch dank des tollen irischem Wetter - puenktlich zum Rugby am Samstag morgen hat es geregnet und passend zum Schachturnier am Nachmittag gab es Sonnenschein - konnte ich im Auto an meinen Socken arbeiten.
Of course I started to think about Christmas but actually I am more collecting ideas and having a brainstorming  in my "crafting diary". It is hard to think about Christmas when the pumpkin in the kitchen is waiting for it's scary face, bats flying on the window and a big witch welcomes you on our front door. But thanks to the lovely Irish weather - Saturday morning I was sitting in the car listening to the rain when the kids were playing rugby and in the afternoon at the chess tournament the sun was shining  - I had time to finish my socks.

Na gut, fuer meine Fuesse sind sie zu klein, aber immerhin hat nun Mini warme Fuesse. Auch gut! Vielleicht im naechsten Anlauf auch wenn mir das Sockenstricken so ueberhaupt nicht liegt und eigentlich gar keinen Spass macht. Aber stricken ist lustig und kalt ist es hier auch schon, also hab ich angefangen Handschuhe fuer mich zu stricken ... ich bin mal gespannt!
Ok, they are to small for my feet but at least my little one has warm feet now. Good! Maybe I start again but it looks more like I don't like knitting socks and it is not really fun even if I love knitting. So I started to make an other pair of gloves because it started getting cold!

Ein perfektes Muster! Irgendwie macht es Spass und geht schnell. Allerdings hab ich gestern eine Masche mal kurzzeitig verloren, was den Lerneffekt hatte: niemals bei diesem Muster eine Masche verlieren, denn nach dem Auftrennen die Maschen wieder auf die Nadel zu bringen ist bei dem Muster eine Kunst. Meine Strickkunst hat auf jeden Fall dafuer nicht gereicht und so wuerde gestern viel mehr aufgetrennt als gedacht. Jetzt pass ich aber bestens auf meine 56 Maschen auf.
A perfect pattern! It makes fun and it is fast. Just losing a loop is horrible and it happened yesterday. I could not get the others back on the needle so I had to start it almost all over again. So this time I really take care of my 56 loops!

Linzer Torte ...

Heute habe ich sie endlich gebacken. Da der Freitag hier immer recht kurz ist - Sohnemann geht bis 3:30pm Schach und Toechterchen sowieso gleich bis 4:30 Drama und Hip-Hp - sodass ich mit Mini gleich nach der Schule Kuchen backen wollte. Der Vorsatz war wie immer perfekt und alle Zutaten lagen bereit als ich die Kleine von der Schule abgeholt habe. Natuerlich kommt nun das grosse ABER: sie ist so muede, dass sie sich direkt aufs Sofa gelegt hat und nun schlaeft. Aha! Schule ist eben doch recht anstrengend! Doch der Kuchen musste gebacken werden und so hab ich mich eben selbst in die Kueche gestellt und geruehrt und geruehrt und verziert und ...
Today was planed to backe the cake. Because friday is always so short - my boy comes from school at 3:30pm after chess and his sister at 4:30 after drama and hip-hop - so I wanted to bake with the little one. Pefect! The ingredients were prepared and everything was ready when I pick her up from school. BUT she decided to go to sleep straight after entering the house. Ok! School is more exhausting than I thought so I had to go to the kitchen by my own and start to mix and mix and decorate ... 

... Oesterreichische Linzer fertig fuer das Backrohr. Noch 30 min warten und dann koennte ich ... natuerlich warte ich noch bis die Kinder aus der Schule kommen, dann gibt es erstmal Pizza und Movietime und dann koennen wir uns ans Verkosten machen *gg* Also Cindy, dein Mug Rug wartet und es waere auch noch Kuchen vorraetig ... noch ;)
... Austrian Linzer ready to go to the oven. I have to wait about 30 minutes and than I could ... of course not! I will wait for the kids coming home from school, than we have pizza and movietime and after - if there is still someone hungry - we can try the cake. *gg* So Cindy, your mug rug is waiting and if you want you also can try austrian cake ;)

Probequilt ...

Schon seit langer Zeit wollte ich mal eindlich einen Quilt naehen genau nach meinen Vorstellungen. Jetzt ergibt sich endlich die Gelegenheit dazu und so soll mein Wunschquilt ein Geschenk fuer einen ganz lieben Menschen werden. Damit bei dem Geschenk dann auch wirklich alles passt, habe ich einen "Probequilt" angefangen. Dafuer habe ich aus meinem Vorrat Stoffe ausgesucht und auch schon mal zugeschnitten. Da ich aber auf dem Esstisch naehe, muss ich anschliessend immer wieder den Tisch von den Stoffen entledigen, damit auch das Essen noch dort eingenommen werden kann.
When I first read about quilting and saw all that wounderful quilts I always wanted to make my own quilt. Now I have the opportunity to make exactly the quilt I always wanted to try and give it as a present to a special friend. So I started to make a samplequilt to be sure nothing goes wrong. I cut fabrics from my stash and because my sewingtable is the dinning table I had to put the stuff away after that we could have dinner. 

Also heute morgen hab ich dann wieder alles geputzt, aufgestellt und bereitgestellt, dass ich nachdem die Kinder in der Schule sind, durchstarten kann ... Hmmm! Guter Plan, allerdings habe ich den wohl ohne mein Buegeleisen gemacht. Das wollte und wollte nicht heiss werden!!! Also frustriert wieder alles verraeumt und bei naechster Gelegenheit wird (allerspaetestens am Samstag) ein neues Buegeleisen in den Einkaufswagen wandern muessen *gg*
But today I wanted to start sewing. So I cleaned the table, put the sewing machine on, ironboard,... everything was prepared to start when the kids are in school. ... hmmm! Good plan but I did not ask my pressing iron it it likes my plan. Unfortunatly it did not! It did not get hot ;( So frustrated I cleand the table, put all the fabrics away again and next time I go shopping you can be sure there will be a new iron in the basket.
 

Na gut, dann eben heute aufs Sofa mit einer guten Tasse Tee und den grossen Nadeln: Stricken *gg* Ich liebe meine neue Tasche, die perfekt fuer die Stricksachen ist und den Mug Rug. Das macht den Tag gleich viel schoener, denn momentan macht sich der Nebel und das Grau in Irland breit. Immerhin hatten die Kinder der dritten Klasse gestern strahlenden Sonnenschein auf ihrem Ausflug nach Coole Park. Und heute nachmittag versuchen wir das Rezept einer Freundin nachzubacken, denn Sohnemann wollte "den Kuchen der in der roten Box" zu uns gekommen ist. Ich bin mal gespannt, ob wir das mit irischen Zutaten auch so lecker hinbekommen.
So I took seat on the sofa and made myself a cup of tea and took the big needles: Kitting! I love my new bag! The size is perfect for my knitting and the mug rug makes my day! The days are really getting gray and foggy in Ireland now. Luckily the kids from third class had wonderful sunshine yesterday when they went to Coole Park and today when the kids come home from school we will try to bake a cake. My son asked some days ago if we can make "that lovely cake from the red box" a friend sent us. Lets see if we can make it with irish ingredients *gg*

What I did last week ..

Lange war es geplant und endlich wurde es in die Tat umgesetzt: Ich war eine Woche ohne Kinder in Italien! Genauer gesagt in der Toscana, am Gardasee und in Mailand. Traumhaft! Sonne! Meer! und gutes Essen - vor allem zu leistbaren Preisen - :) Ich glaube im naechsten Jahr mach ich (fast) die gleich Tour nochmal mit den Kindern, wobei ich mir das im Hochsommer schon schweisstreibend vorstelle ... Aber bis dahin ist ja noch lange Zeit!
A long time ago I started to plan a travell to Italy. Acutally it should have been Rome but I did not want to spend so much money so the plan changed to Tuscanny and Milano/Verona. Last week I did it! I went to Milano for one week: summer, sun, good food and the sea! Sure I have the sea here as well but almost no sunshine and sometimes it could be really cold. It was so nice that I think about doing it with the kids again but not in summer with all the tourists around.

Angefangen hat die Reise in Mailand. Dafuer musste ich schon um 2 Uhr morgens den Bus nach Dublin nehmen und um 7:20 hob der Flieger auch schon ab. Puenktlich um 10:40 stand ich in der Sonne und es war auch so schoen warm. Von dort ging es allerdings gleich weiter nach Genua und dann ans Meer.
The travel started in Milano. That for I had to take the bus from Galway to Dublin at 2am in the morning. That was hard. I did not get much sleep that night. I took of at 7:20 and arrived at 10:40am in the sun. We went down to Genua and to the sea ...

Am Abend sind wir schon in Florenz angekommen. Frau haette mal besser die Wetterseiten studiert, denn es war warm und ich hatte doch (fast) gar keine Sommersachen eingepackt *gg* So stand ich wohl als typische Touristin in Montepulciano und Siena mit langen Aermeln. Aber frau kann ja auch nicht alles haben.

In the evening we arrived at Florence. Actually I should have studied the weather forecast. I almost did not pack any summer clothes. So I was almost the only one with long arm shirts in the sun of Montepulciano.

Am Nachmittag ging es noch weiter nach Siena. Als mir meine Freundin erzaehlte, dass Siena schoener ist als Florenz konnte ich es nicht glauben, aber sie hatte wohl recht. Bewahrheiten sollte sich die Aussage am naechsten Tag, als Florenz erkundet wurde.
Later we drove to Bagni Vignoni and Siena. I did not believe when a friend told me that Siena will be much nicer than Florence but she was right.

Ich hatte mir Florenz viel weitlaeufiger vorgestellt. Doch der Dom war beeindruckend. Den Aufstieg haben wir aber nicht gewagt ...
I thought Florence would be much bigger and much more to see. Just the dome was seen from everywhere but we did not get up ...

Zur Entspannung ging es weiter an den Gardasee, der schon ziemlich leer von Touristen war. So kannte ich den gar nicht. Als Ausgangspunkt fuer Verona war er aber perfekt gelegen. Leider gab es gerade keine der so hochgelobten Opern wie Aida oder Nabucco (die wuerd ich dort gern mal sehen) dieser Tage, sodass die Arena bei Tag und ohne Konzert besucht wurde.
After so much sight seeing we went to the Gardalake up in the north. It looked really empty there. I remeber so many tourists there in summer but it was a good place to stay. The next day we went to Verona. Unfortunately there was no opera in the arena that days so we only could have a look around. I am not a fan of opera but maybe one day I will watch aida or nabucco in that fabulous arena.

Trotzdem sehr beeindruckend und garantiert eine wunderbare Kulisse fuer so manche Veranstaltung. Wohl auch ein To-Do fuer den naechsten Italienbesuch.
Still very a impressive place. Also now on the to-do list for my next trip to Italy...

Auch dieser Dame musste ein Besuch abgestattet werden. Ist sie nicht bildhuebsch? So eine tragische Geschichte von so vielen Schriftstellern erzaehlt ...

Leider kam dann auch schon der letzte Tag ... Mailand! Anfangs- und Endpunkt der Reise. Ein letzter Rundgang und schon musste der Koffer wieder gepackt werden und es ging Richtung Flughafen.

And than the last day came. Back in Milano! One last walk to the dome and this time I went up on the roof. Than I had to start packing my luggage again.

Goodie Swap is done ...

Heute sind beide Briefe von meinem Goodie Swap angekommen. Schon vor dem Fruehstueck hat sie der Postbote in den Windfang gestellt. Leider waren die Kinder heute soooo langsam - kein Wunder es ist Freitag und es regnet - dass wir erst zu Mittag zum Oeffnen gekommen sind. Puentklich  nachdem Madame ihren  Lunch gegessen hatte, hat sie sich dann endlich an das erste Packerl gemacht .... Tata! Mein neuer Mug Rug von Patchwork Queen ist angekommen. Als goodie gab es eine kleine Tasche dazu und eine wunderschoene Karte ...
Today the two letters from my Goodie Swap at Fluffy Sheep arrived. Bevor breakfast the postman - acutally I thought he doesn't like me any more - left them at the door. It had to be that the kids are today so late - it is Friday and it is raining - that we did not have time to open them bevore school. So I had to wait until they came home. At lunchtime the little one finished school and so the first letter was opend. Tata ... My new Mug Rug from Patchwork Queen arrived. Isn't it cute? I love the combination of blue and green .. If I ever told you I don't like green ... forget it! I love this Mug Rug and all the colors! I also love the card. I wished I had found one like that to put into my letter ...

... und noch ganz viele Stofffleckerln und und und ...

.. natuerlich ist der mug rug auch gleich mit meiner Lieblingstasse im einsatz und wie es fuer britische Verhaeltnisse gehoert: Ich trinke Tee :)

Da waren aber noch 3 andere Briefumschlaege, die geoeffnet werden wollten. Endlich kam Midi aus der Schule und so konnte es wieder fleissig ans oeffnen gehn. Der zweite Goodie wurde entpackt. Tata ...
There have been three more letters today but it took an other two hours till the next one finished school and three until the last one came home. The second goodie was unpacked .. tata ...

Susan von canadianabroad-susan.blogspot.com war meine zweite Partnerin im Goodie Swap. Einen ganz suessen Mug Rug hab ich nun zu Hause und ich kann mich heute gar nicht entscheiden, welchen ich nun verwenden soll.

Auch in ihrem Packerl gab es eine ganz tolle Tasche (dieses mal durftge ich mit Midi drum streiten, aber wir haben uns darauf geeinigt, dass ich die Tasche bekomme und sie den Inhalt) und soooo viele schoene Stofffleckerln.
vielen lieben Dank meinen beiden Tauschpartnerinnen! Ich hoffe, meine beiden Partnerinnen haben mit dem von mir genaehten auch so viel Freude, wie ich mit meinen neuen Mugs. :) 
Also in her letter there were so many lovely things - and now I had to fight with my other daughter who will get the bag but we decided that she gets the sweets and I can have the bag - and soooo lovely fabrics. 

Thank you so much! It was a lovely swap and it was so much fun. Not only getting the mug rugs and guessing which one will be mine also the making was so much fun.I hope there will be an other swap soon so I can join again. Thanks Cindy for all the work. I was amazing :) 

Give Away ...

Manchmal dauert alles ewig bei mir und wenn etwas nicht nach meinem Kopf geht, dann dauert es gleich nochmal laenger. Ich habe schon vor Wochen begonnen einen Mug Rug fuer das Give Away zu naehen, aber ... Manchmal sind meine Haende leider schneller als mein Kopf und so wurde dann gleich mal der perfekt geschnittene Stoff falsch zusammengenaeht ;( Tja, in dem Fall war es echt schlecht, dass ich mir ein Muster ausgesucht hatte und so wurde erstmal wieder alles zur Seite gelegt und sich wieder auf die Mug Rugs fuer den Swap konzentriert.
Sometimes things can take an eternity and if the things don't work out like I got them in my head it takes even longer. I started the mug rug for the give away but when i started sewing my hands were faster than my head. So I mixed up the perfectly cutted pieces ... and because I had to make the mug rugs for the swap I just put the pieces to the side. The others had to be finished in time so I started to make them and really took care not to mix up the pieces again.

Allerdings musste es ja irgendwie weitergehn und so hab ich die Teile dann doch nochmal zusammengelegt und versucht eine schoene Kombination mit den schon genaehten und neuen Stoeffchen zu erhalten. Da am Samstag dann auch noch verlaengertes Rugbytraining war - Irland vs Australien musste natuerlich geschaut werden und somit konnte das Training erst beginnen, als das Match zu ende war -, konnte ich die Zeit im Auto noch zum Sticken nutzen und ... tata ... es war vollbracht :) Irgendwie mag ich die Kombination doch recht gern!
But anyway it had to go on and so I had a second look at the pieces I already made and tried to make a new pattern with the sewn ones and cut some new ones. I also had a little spare time on Saturday morning because of the Rugby match Ireland vs Australia - it had to be watched and the training had to be after - which I used for stitching ... tata ... it is finished (just had 5 minutes sunshine to take the picture) Somehow I like it!

Endlich konnte mein Maedchen mit der Auslosung beginnen. Perfekter Anlass um die Jungs in Ruhe spielen zu lassen - fuer ein paar Minuten ...
My big girl was waiting to draw and leave the boys just for a couple of minutes alone ... just some ...

.. mein "heissgeliebter" Mug Rug geht an Fluffy Sheep .. Ich ueberleg nur grad, ob sie noch einen Mug Rug haben will, da sie ja bald durch ihren Swap 2 erhalten wird. Liebste Cindy, dir kann ich den Mug Rug gleich persoenlich vorbeibringen oder moechtest du ihn bei einer Tasse Kaffe/Tee gleich ausprobieren? :)

Der Sommer scheint nun auch endgueltig vorbei zu sein und ich will euch nicht vorenthalten, dass wir doch in diesem Jahr Tomaten angeplanzt hatten ... Tja! So sehen sie aus... Ob die noch reif werden und geniesbar sind?
