Bye, bye ...

.. see you back in Autumn! It is this time of the year where I pack the kids and we go "home". So we leave the rain and the cold behind (we wish) and fly into the summer (heard it is colder there than here)

When I told the kids yesterday that it is colder at granny than here the first thing that came into their mind was: "So it will be snowing and we can go skiing! Great!" No, I hope it will not be that cold but there will be snow on some mountains and maybe we go up to a glacier one day.

Blogging will be reduced to a minimum but I will post some pics during our travel. So have a great summer!

Teachers presents

I have to say I am not good in giving presents especially for teachers. I made a "good-bye" present for the Kindergarten when we left Austria but I think that was all I ever did. Except from cakes and biscuits during the school year. So this year my girl started to make a mug rug for her teacher. She had a lovely teacher who encouraged her and the school report was fantastic! So because my little one is terrible hard to teach - no, she is!!! ask her teachers!!! - and because I saw Rhondas teabag this morning I went straight sewing to be finished in time. It was straight forward and really easy to make.

Every morning I came into school the teachers are running around with their tea cups straight to their class rooms. So I might not be totally wrong if she gets a pouch for her tea bags. I am not sure she likes my selection of teas!

My little one was also going to the support teacher and she did not behave different there than she did in class so I made a little mug rug for her. I put a little pocket in the front so she can keep sugar or a spoon there or a tea bag as well. I used a text fabric I got at the Quilt Festival but I am not sure if she knows a type writer ....

Just need to put them in a lovely cover and give them away! So the summer can start....

An other school year is (almost) over ..

Last week I went to the Quilt Festival in Galway and we had a look around, fun at the treasure hunt - even if it was really hard - and of course did a little shopping. She was allowed to get some fat quarters just for fun. When we came home she got my sewing machine because finally I got a new one!!!! Straight away she started having fun ...

She made a mug rug for her teacher and today she brought it to school. It has lots of colors but she really did well! I only helped a little with the binding but the quilt-as-you-go was really easy for her to make.

I am so proud! I love the colors she put together. Absolutely fantastic!

Almost in the mail ...

It is done! The purple quilt is finished and I somehow like it. I love the blocks and how they come together but most of you know, I am not a fan of green. So it is just the color I am not so happy with ...

It took ages to finish this quilt. I bought the last fabric at the Quilt Festival on the weekend to make the border. I decided to go for a white sashing first and after adding a purple boder the same with as the middle of the blocks. The solid I chose was just a little to short so I had to ad leftovers in the corners. I love it.

On the back I used some of the stripes I had for the middle part in the blocks. I love the pattern on the back. Just straight lines!

This baby was quite hard to quilt. It has a perfect size for the sofa with its 120x75cm. I hope that is what she was thinking of and she will love it.

This is an other finish for the Finish a Long 2013. Looks like this quarter is mine! Almost every thing from the list is done. Lets see if I can mange the rest ... but first I am of with my little girl to the Italian Feis in Milan!

Getting to an end ...

It is a long time ago that I promised a friend a quilt. A long time UFO and it was hidden in the corner for a while as I could not find the motivation to continue.

The blocks are quite small with 7.25'' and there were lots of blocks to  be made. I had already 29 done when I took the fabrics out yesterday. So just some more to be done! This can not be so hard! It was a gorgeous day so sit down an sew! What a surprise I had an other 11 blocks done in no time! So I was motivated today to finish the top .... sewing ... sewing ... sewing ..

Oh no! When I started the game arranging the blocks I was surprised how small the top is. I counted the blocks again and  .... oh no! ... There are not as many as I wanted to have! Somehow it looked small but I was not in the mood to sit down an make more blocks! I wanted this top to be done TODAY!!! And I did it!

It is not as small as I thought! Actually I like the size. Arranging a border and this will be big enough to cuddle in wintertime. No more blocks! What a nice surprise.

And the best thing? Somehow it was much easier to match the seams than I thought. I am really happy how it turned out and she is as well. So now I have to add a border. Just framing or to I start with a white sashing before I add the border? What do you think?

We are now ready for an other International Day in school showing posters from Austria, eating 'Manner Schnitten' and 'Mozart Kugeln' and of course get dressed up like we are the stars from 'Sound of Music'. At the end of the day we will be singing again ...

I am from Austria
