Sample Block

It is time to think about my block for the Stash Bee. Till now I have two ideas. Actually I wanted to make lots of stars but we already made them for May. When I saw the Converging Corners lately on a blog and I thought this could work out fine for every ones stash. I had a closer look at the tutorial and thought this is easy ... I am sure it is! but something went wrong. I did not want to show you but because Susan was so brave I show you what I did today ...

Na?
Doesn't look so bad on the first sight. Did you find the mistake? Of course you did!!!

Ok, that was not a good block. Maybe I will make a mug rug for me and hopefully I do the next one right. Now I know what to take care of :)

sunshine ....

Finally summer arrived in Ireland and the last days were full of sunshine. Of course we could not stay inside and craft - I did a little outside but it was much to hot under the blanket - so we went of to the beach ...

... or enjoyed the sunshine in the garden and watched this little strawberry getting red ...

... or watched the Edelwhite growing and we hope it will bloom until the multicultural day in school!

Happy sunshine :)

An other star ...

Who ever said these stars are addicting was so right! I made a second star out of the serie Solstice Stars and it worked out so perfect. This time the seams match so perfect that it is a joy to make it :)

The sun was shining to make a picture but the wind did not stop. I love the colors! Perfect for grey winter days in Ireland. I also hand quilted this mini and have a look at the back. Isn't this great?

But paper piecing is not that easy than I thought. I have still lots of questions so maybe one of you can answer this: Where do you stop sewing? On the line, in the seam allowance, ... ? and if you stop on the line how do you prevent holes? Any advice for me?

Also schnell zurueck an die Maschine ... *winke*
There is one more star I want to make but first I have to finish my girls quilt. She should sit cosy on the sofa on the weekend with her new blanket. So I am back sewing ... *wave*

Paper Piecing ....

It was a while ago that I joined the Mouthy Stiches Zipper Pouch Swap and got this lovely pouch from my partner. WandaFish11 made it for me and she also put the block in a competition.

At this time she showed me a link for a paper piecing tutorial. Ok, the Flying Geese took all my nerves and after two tries I throw it away. I never ever wanted to see them again. But I also had the copies from the Solstice Star Series and they look so lovely. So after the not so good Miniquilt I thought the seams must match perfect if I use paper piecing and so I gave it an other try. So I searched the stash and this is what the star looks like ...

I used the last three minutes before the rain started. My neighbor must wonder what I put on the line every now and than :D
I decided to make the Star of Mystery. The fabrics are almost the same than on the Miniquilt. I used the perle cotton I had left from the Stained Quilt for hand quilting. Just some little stitches for this mini.

Mahlzeit :)
The middle doesn't look so bad this time. It is not a hundred percent perfect but with a little practice it will get better. Anyway I am no longer scared from paper piecing and maybe I get the Geese out again ... some day! Till than I enjoy the scones I made today!

{Sew} Get Started ...

Sarah from http://fairyfacedesigns.blogspot.com/ started a {Sew} Get Started  weeks ago and she always had so lovely tutorials there. I already made the tablerunner and it was fun. The last two days I struggled with HSTs. Son't they look gorgeous?
Miniquilt tutorial at http://fairyfacedesigns.blogspot.com

You have so many variations with the HSTs to make such lovely quilts. So I started searching in my stash for fabrics. Actually I found red/blue/green. Even if I don't like green I have lots of it. So it was easy to start and follow the tutorial step by step .. until ... Yes, until I had to sew together the lines. How hard could it be to match the seams? It can be awfully hard and at the end it doesn't work out :( And because it always gets worse ... that's the way how my machine thought it will be a perfect seam ...

Was immer so einfach aussieht hat mich gestern alle Nerven gekostet.
Oh, I wanted to throw it all in the corner! Just one last try and if this also doesn't work, it will be thrown in the bin! I don't know what really happened but somehow it worked out ... the seams matched almost perfect!

Unbelievable but from the last two rows the pattern matches nicely and it looked like this ...

Tata :)
So if this one matches I give it an other try .... and it did! On the last two rows I finally knew how to make it and so I finished the miniquilt .. tata ... :)

It doesn't look so bad but don't look close! Thanks Sarah and Kirsten for this lovely tutorial! It was not really fun to make it but it looks amazing and I am happy that I have done it :)

Midi Quilt ...

A long time ago the fabrics from the US arrived but in between all the things that had to be done the last weeks and the travel we did  not have time to start my girls quilt. So today after the communion party at school she was allowed to leave school at 12 am. Best day for us to start!

She chose the pattern from an other quilt she once saw and she also chose the fabrics online by herself. We stacked the fabrics and cut them: "Stack and Slash". That is brilliant. I did not let her cut but she told me exactly where the ruler had to be ...

Unfortunately we had to make a break for Irish Dancing but when she is back we will finish the last blocks from the first stash. Maybe I let her sew a block if she wants to.
I also made an other star for the Stash Bee. Actually I don't know what I thought when I sew the first one. I should read carefully what the Queen wants. So she was asking for a scrappy wonky star. My star is wonky but it is not scrappy :( And she said bright colors (ie no pastels) ... mine was just pastels. Oh no! So that is my new star ...

The size of this star is 12.5'' with modern fabrics. Does it look scrappy? And because I already had the fabrics cut for little stars I made them too.

This size 4.5'' and I hope the queen likes them :)

Stash Bee April and May

Because of the travel and all the stuff that had to be done I am really late for my April Stash Bee. I did not really had a clue what I wanted to make but when I came back from Austria I thought about the house I saw there.

It was just not that easy. I started with a layout. Doesn't it look nice? Actually I don't like applique :(

When I started to look for fabrics I recognised that my stash with brown fabrics is not existing. So I tried to make the house with only this fabric.

It doesn't really look like the drawing and the wind did not make it easy to make a picture. I hope the April Bee Queen likes this little house and it was worth to wait so long. And because the sewing machine was already on the table and I had a little time left, I tried to make the May-Block as well. It was so easy to make it that I will definitely make an other one :)

I have already cut the fabrics for at least one more ...

Wedding in Austria ...

It have been lovely days in Austria but it was exhausting too. On Thursday I went of to Vienna to meet a friend with the card for the wedding. The card was sent through Austria for the last weeks and now it was time to bring it to Graz where the present was already waiting.
On the next day I met the bride to be for a breakfast and the first little problems had already occurred: there were not enough flowers for the bridal bouquet and the decoration.

Luckily there were some found in a garden. So we brought them to the florist. Isn't it great to find a solution so easy and fast?

After she made the last pieces we went off to the location for the reception. But there was a little surprise as well: it was not prepared to be decorated. As it was just lunch time and there was plenty of other things to be done we went to the church first and left this to be done later ...

They chose to get married in this beautiful church in Stainz. We decorated the church and put the flowers on the altar. The rest had to be done on Saturday so we went back to Graz.

Wunderschoen ....
Saturday morning at eight the last preparations started: dress the bride! The hairdresser and make-up artist arrived in time and the sun started to displace the fog. They decided to get married in a traditional costume. Isn't it beautiful? I love it!

It was specially made for her and she chose the fabrics with her maid of honor. The Embroidery looks amazing!

The only thing missing was the bride bouquet which was collected from the groom and his best man. So we started the way to the civil registry office.

The room for the civil registration was a little wine cellar. Because of the limited space only some guests could take part there. All the others were waiting at the church when the bride arrived and went down the aisle with her uncle.
The groom made the impossible happen and organised her favorite car :) It was waiting outside the church to drive her to the reception.

There I could hand her over my present. I hope they like it. This pattern was on the grooms shirt and on the give away bags.

I wish them all the best with all my heart!
Thank you that I could celebrate with you this special day!
