What I did last week ..

Lange war es geplant und endlich wurde es in die Tat umgesetzt: Ich war eine Woche ohne Kinder in Italien! Genauer gesagt in der Toscana, am Gardasee und in Mailand. Traumhaft! Sonne! Meer! und gutes Essen - vor allem zu leistbaren Preisen - :) Ich glaube im naechsten Jahr mach ich (fast) die gleich Tour nochmal mit den Kindern, wobei ich mir das im Hochsommer schon schweisstreibend vorstelle ... Aber bis dahin ist ja noch lange Zeit!
A long time ago I started to plan a travell to Italy. Acutally it should have been Rome but I did not want to spend so much money so the plan changed to Tuscanny and Milano/Verona. Last week I did it! I went to Milano for one week: summer, sun, good food and the sea! Sure I have the sea here as well but almost no sunshine and sometimes it could be really cold. It was so nice that I think about doing it with the kids again but not in summer with all the tourists around.

Angefangen hat die Reise in Mailand. Dafuer musste ich schon um 2 Uhr morgens den Bus nach Dublin nehmen und um 7:20 hob der Flieger auch schon ab. Puenktlich um 10:40 stand ich in der Sonne und es war auch so schoen warm. Von dort ging es allerdings gleich weiter nach Genua und dann ans Meer.
The travel started in Milano. That for I had to take the bus from Galway to Dublin at 2am in the morning. That was hard. I did not get much sleep that night. I took of at 7:20 and arrived at 10:40am in the sun. We went down to Genua and to the sea ...

Am Abend sind wir schon in Florenz angekommen. Frau haette mal besser die Wetterseiten studiert, denn es war warm und ich hatte doch (fast) gar keine Sommersachen eingepackt *gg* So stand ich wohl als typische Touristin in Montepulciano und Siena mit langen Aermeln. Aber frau kann ja auch nicht alles haben.

In the evening we arrived at Florence. Actually I should have studied the weather forecast. I almost did not pack any summer clothes. So I was almost the only one with long arm shirts in the sun of Montepulciano.

Siena Duomo

Am Nachmittag ging es noch weiter nach Siena. Als mir meine Freundin erzaehlte, dass Siena schoener ist als Florenz konnte ich es nicht glauben, aber sie hatte wohl recht. Bewahrheiten sollte sich die Aussage am naechsten Tag, als Florenz erkundet wurde.
Later we drove to Bagni Vignoni and Siena. I did not believe when a friend told me that Siena will be much nicer than Florence but she was right.

Ich hatte mir Florenz viel weitlaeufiger vorgestellt. Doch der Dom war beeindruckend. Den Aufstieg haben wir aber nicht gewagt ...
I thought Florence would be much bigger and much more to see. Just the dome was seen from everywhere but we did not get up ...

Zur Entspannung ging es weiter an den Gardasee, der schon ziemlich leer von Touristen war. So kannte ich den gar nicht. Als Ausgangspunkt fuer Verona war er aber perfekt gelegen. Leider gab es gerade keine der so hochgelobten Opern wie Aida oder Nabucco (die wuerd ich dort gern mal sehen) dieser Tage, sodass die Arena bei Tag und ohne Konzert besucht wurde.
After so much sight seeing we went to the Gardalake up in the north. It looked really empty there. I remeber so many tourists there in summer but it was a good place to stay. The next day we went to Verona. Unfortunately there was no opera in the arena that days so we only could have a look around. I am not a fan of opera but maybe one day I will watch aida or nabucco in that fabulous arena.

Trotzdem sehr beeindruckend und garantiert eine wunderbare Kulisse fuer so manche Veranstaltung. Wohl auch ein To-Do fuer den naechsten Italienbesuch.
Still very a impressive place. Also now on the to-do list for my next trip to Italy...

Auch dieser Dame musste ein Besuch abgestattet werden. Ist sie nicht bildhuebsch? So eine tragische Geschichte von so vielen Schriftstellern erzaehlt ...
A lot of people maybe just visit Verona because of her: Giulietta! Isn't she beautiful? Such a tragically story she tells...

Leider kam dann auch schon der letzte Tag ... Mailand! Anfangs- und Endpunkt der Reise. Ein letzter Rundgang und schon musste der Koffer wieder gepackt werden und es ging Richtung Flughafen.

And than the last day came. Back in Milano! One last walk to the dome and this time I went up on the roof. Than I had to start packing my luggage again.
